Sydney : Debut Post!

Hi friends!

I'm so sorry to be terribly boring for my first post...but I'm in the midst of packing to go to PARIS for the semester! I can't tell you how excited I am. But...even though I'm excited, I almost feel like it isn't actually happening to me. Does that make sense? Like I'm in an alternate universe, watching it all happen to myself. (Yes, I went there. Nerd.)

I hope that sensation wears off a little. Or all the way. Preferably all the way. :)

So. Here's the scoop on what I'm doing.

Today I finish packing, and I'm going to my brother Walker's football game. It's 4 hours away. Why? I don't know. But it is. Tomorrow morning I fly out to Utah**, where I will stay with some friends until Wednesday afternoon when I fly out of Salt Lake City to PARIS, where I will be spending the next three months of my life. Um. I'm pretty happy about that.

I'll be taking 5 classes while I am there. I'm taking French Conversation, French Grammar, Advanced Francophone Culture (which is basically me taking walks around Paris from a BYU guidebook and writing about each little walk. Boom.), a religion class about the LDS church in world settings, and oh, you know, a European Fine Arts class taught by an ex-pat and we will be meeting in the museums around Paris for class. No big deal or anything. AHHH. So happy.

And there you have it, folks. That is what I have to look forward to and what YOU have to look forward to reading about! :)

I promise the next post is going to be more interesting - a little bit more of "how I met Chloe and Sasha" and a little bit less of "here's my weekly schedule, hope it's interesting." You might even get to hear the story of the name of this blog. If you're lucky...

Over and out!

Syd

**Oh yeah. For those of you who don't know, I go to Brigham Young University (aka BYU) in Provo, Utah. I LOVE it. It's the best school in the world, and don't let Chloe tell you that UOP is better because she's lying. I'm studying French Teaching, and I will either be double majoring or minoring in Art History. Yeppers. I'm pretty happy with my choices.

Hello world.

In the midst of trying to adjust the drivers on my computer, almost catching cooking tools on fire, listening to the Moulin Rouge soundtrack and sending e-mails, I decided it was an appropriate time to get this thing started.

Sasha and I met when we were about 2 (I was 2, she was 3) at day care. Sydney showed up in the picture about third grade and by Jr High the three of us were pretty inseparable. Syd and I survived freshman year, where Sasha and her family moved off to Paris for the year (we both got visits in at some point), finished high school and graduated together, then went our separate ways for college. Me, to University of the Pacific, Sasha to UCLA and Sydney to BYU.

We've remained extremely close the past two years and we've all reached an extremely exciting point in our lives. Sasha's off to Lyon in France, Sydney's spending the semester in Paris and I'm holding down the fort in the States, living with two amazing friends and working the most exciting grown up job I've ever had - recruiting, hiring and training the student tour guide/orientation staff group for the University.

We've started this as a way to keep in contact with each other, taking turns every week posting about our lives, our highs and lows and filling our beloved families in on how we're all doing.

If all goes well.

To quote my beloved Ze Frank,
And God let me enjoy this.
Life isn't just a sequence of waiting for things to be done.
